In May 2017, members of the Nzuguto Environmental Conservation Association and the community members surrounding Nzuguto wetland petitioned the Rubirizi local government officials for neglect of duty, by neglecting the wetland and leaving it to a few local individuals to reclaim it for agricultural purposes. The petition was signed by 100 local members and presented to the Chief administrative officer of the district and copied to the DPC, GISO, Natural Resources Department, RDC, Chairman LCV, Local council chairmen, LC3 Magambo parish, the Parish Chief, and the head of Environmental Police.
It was on record after just a couple of months, early July 2017, a team lead by the Chairman LCV, the District Natural Resources department, Uganda Police, embarked on an exercise that left a few selfish individuals who had reclaimed the swamp crying, while the majority, jubilating! 15metres from the edge of the wetland was demarcated.
